What it covers
Analytical geometry puts shapes on the Cartesian plane and works with them through formulas: distance, midpoint, gradient, the inclination of a line, and parallel and perpendicular lines. The Grade 12 focus is the circle – its equation with the centre at the origin or anywhere else (completing the square to read off its centre and its radius), the tangent to a circle at a given point on it, and whether lines and circles intersect, touch or miss each other.
